Admission Requirements
To qualify for the SELECT+ Doctoral programme, applicants need to fulfill the admission requirements based on previous studies, English proficiency and supporting documents. The minimum requirements are listed below:
A. Previous Studies -- A Complete MSc Degree
All applicants for an engineering PhD position must hold a Master of Science Degree equivalent to 120 ECTS credits, in Physics, Chemistry or Engineering (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Energy Engineering). Please view the requirement for each work package. Around eight to nine fellowships will be awarded.
Usually one dedicated PhD student from each intake will focus on the entrepreneurship and technology commercialization aspects as part of the Project of the Intake. The minimum requirements for the business and entrepreneurship PhD track applicant is having a MSc degree in a relevant academic discipline (Industrial Engineering, Innovation Management, Strategic Management, Research Master in Business), or you expect to complete such a degree in the near future. You should have affinity with technology commercialization, new business development, business model innovation and/or technology entrepreneurship. Please indicate in the submission process whether you apply for an engineering PhD position or an entrepreneurship PhD position. (Please note that there will not be any such dedicated entrepreneurial student within the inake 2015).
For all applicants, the average grade must be at least 75% of the maximum scale.
Conditional acceptance
Students in their final year of MSc education may also apply and if qualified, a conditional offer will be made. If you have not completed your studies, please include a written statement from the degree administration office (or equivalent department), confirming that you are enrolled on the final year of your education and giving your expected completion date. If you receive a conditional offer, you should present your degree certificate to the Admissions Office before enrollment at the latest.
B. Language Requirements: Proof of English Proficiency
Applicants must provide proof of their English language proficiency, which is most commonly established through an internationally recognized test.
IELTS
A minimum overall mark of 7 is required. IELTS-tests are verified online by KTH admissions office, sending a scan of your test is therefore sufficient.
TOEFL
The following TOEFL test scores are accepted as a minimum:
Paper-based test: total result of 600
Internet-based test: total result of 100
Computer-based test: total result of 250
University of Cambridge/ University of Oxford Certificates
Certificate in Advanced English (minimum grade C).
Certificate of Proficiency (minimum grade C).
Diploma of English Studies (minimum grade C).
A scanned copy is sufficient.
Please also note that neither TOEIC nor institutional TOEFL are accepted as sufficient proof of English proficiency.
English proficiency tests are waived for the following:
Applicants who have completed a higher education degree instructed in English at a university (or a university of applied sciences) in an EU/EEA country. The official language of the degree programme has to be stated in the degree certificate or its supplement, or in the transcript of records. Other documentation regarding language of instruction will not be accepted.
Applicants who have completed a degree instructed in English at a university that is physically located in one of the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand.
C. List of Required Documents
The following documents are requested for the application, and should be submitted through the online application form, as described in “application instruction”.
1. A correctly certified copy of your Master of Science Degree in original language and translated into English.
2. A correctly certified copy of your transcript of records in original language and translated into English. All courses taken must be included. (Minimum GPA of 75% of the maximum scale.)
3. Proof of English proficiency.
4. A Curriculum Vitae including details on your academic career.
5. A motivation letter indicating your research interests, and ideas for the research design in relation to the past Work Packages presented during the intakes 2012-2015.
6. A copy of your passport or some other kind of identification in English.
Furthermore, email addresses of two references need to be provided. They must be from the most recently attended higher institute (the first one must be Professor from University, and the second one your MSc Supervisor or a recent employer if relevant).
