Krakow Spring Seminar 2013
From 18th to 24th of March 2013, all MSc SELECT students with academic and administration staff participated in Spring Seminar, hosted by AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland.
The programme of the seminar contained SELECT students presentation of the Project of the Year, lectures by Invited Speakers - experts in the energy topic, both from academia and industry, technical visits as well as some cultural activities. During the seminar also Steering Committee meeting and Admin meeting took a place.
At first day, after a word of welcome by dr inż. Rafal Mrowka, the CEO CC Poland Plus and prof. Wojciech Suwala, Dean of Faculty of Energy and Fuels, SELECT students took apart in the Polish Class and the AGH Campus Tour. The biggest surprise for everyone was the experimental coal mine, unique research and teaching laboratory located at the University. In the afternoon the participants of the seminar got a Krakow Walk Tour, the opportunity to visit the most interesting and beautiful places in Krakow.
The second day was devoted to PoY presentation. After a word of welcome prof. Andrzej Tytko, Vice-Rector for Education, the floor was left for SELECT Students. Students presented recent results of their work. In the end of the day the Question and Answer session with staff was organised.
On the third day the participants got tour around (i) the hydro power plant in Nidzica - located below the highest earth dam in Poland; (ii) and the geothermal heating plant in Banska Nizna - the first geothermal heating plant in Poland. In the afternoon all together visited Zakopane, one of the most popular leisure resorts in Poland.
The fourth and fifth day was devoted to industrial and academic presentation. The experts from energy sector in Poland, presented their companies, research and development to familiarize students with the Polish market of fuels and energy.
At the end of the seminar, the students visited: (i) “Wieliczka” Salt Mine is one of the most valuable monuments of material and spiritual culture in Poland and (ii) Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, the Memorial which includes the German concentration camps and is devoted to the memory of the murders during World War II.
