Presently, rural people in India use kerosene lamp for lighting purpose. Kerosene lamp cost around 3 Euros and every month they spend around 1 Euro on fuel.
Currently, there are many solar lamps available in the Market but all of them cost more than 15 Euros and also repairing these solar lamps at the village level is very difficult. These reasons make it difficult for the people in the village to buy solar lamps. My aim was to provide a low cost lamp solution where people can make their own lamp.
It was also observed that most of the people in the village have cell phone. I wanted to integrate mobile phone changer for the charging of the lamp and reduce the components require to make lamp so that cost is low as well as complexity so that villagers can make their own lamp.

I successfully designed a lamp which can be charged using any mobile charger with small modifications.
I used upper portion of the coke bottle for casing and a plastic box for the base. Lamp consists of only 4 components which were easily available in the nearest town and 8 wire connections which were easy for villagers to learn without any technical knowledge. This lamp cost only 1 Euro which is cheaper than buying a kerosene lamp. The main idea of this project was to enable people in the village to make their own lamp.
Project is very successful and people are making and using the lamp in the village.
